EDS head coach Enzo Maresca has urged his players to forget about last weekend’s superb 7-2 win at Liverpool and train their collective focus on the challenge posed by Friday’s home clash with Brighton.

Maresca’s players produced a remarkable performance on Merseyside as we swept the Premier League 2 leaders away in devastating fashion.

The emphatic victory moved our EDS up into fourth place in the table with City next playing host to Brighton at the City Football Academy at 1pm on Friday, a game that will be screened live on CITY+.

Another three-point haul tomorrow over the Seagulls Under-23s would propel us into top spot ahead of the weekend’s other fixtures.

However, Maresca says he is expecting another tough test with the evidence of the first three months of the season only reinforcing for both him and his players the demanding nature of the challenge posed by every team in Premier League 2.

“When you win and have a good performance it’s always much better to prepare to play again than to work after a defeat,” the EDS head coach asserted.

“The players were very happy after the Liverpool match but, as I always have said, that game is in the past.

“I know Brighton will be difficult because I have seen in these past few months with all the teams, they play a bigger game when they play against us, so we have to be ready for them.

“This is a compliment to us I think but we still have a lot to improve.

“I think we are on the right path, but always we have to continue to help the team to improve.”

Among the many highlights of our success against Liverpool were two-goal hauls for both Cole Palmer and Liam Delap.

The pair, who have both made impressive City first team bows this season, each executed exquisite chips to round off superb individual displays.

But Maresca pointed to the collective rather than individual qualities which he believed are the key benchmarks for success.

“Both goals were fantastic, and we know that both Liam and Cole are very good players,” the head coach added.

“But in the moment, we understand that we become a team by playing together and working together and I think we can do something important.”
