City Elite Development Squad forward Nico O'Reilly says he didn't even look at Nottingham Forest's goal before unleashing a halfway line shot which found the back of the net.

The phenomenal goal was O’Reilly’s second of the match after he gave City the lead from close range late into the first half.

His brace was thoroughly deserved with the number 10 running relentlessly, contributing heavily to City regaining possession often in Forest’s half.

After the match the 18-year-old was asked to dissect his brace which saw City pick up our first league win of 2024.

“We work on those types of situations in training,” said O’Reilly when analysing his first goal.

“We like to aim for the six-yard box so I just knew Justin [Oboavwoduo] was going to place his pass there and I was able to score it.

“And no, I just did it, I didn’t look!” O’Reilly exclaimed when asked if he always knew he was going to go for goal for his second strike.

“I’d seen throughout the game the keeper was always quite high up so yeah I just went for it and it went in.”

The three points see City move off the bottom of the table and six points behind the knockout stage places.

And having spent the majority of the 2023/24 season side lined through injury, O’Reilly is just glad to be back on the pitch playing his part and is hoping to continue his form in City’s final five league games.

“It’s an amazing feeling, it was a tough five/six months,” admitted O’Reilly.

“I’m still finding my feet but yeah hopefully we can carry on getting a few more wins in the final few games.

“We’ll try and do everything we can to make top 16. We’ll be at it in every training session and each game starting Monday against Sunderland, we’ll see what happens.”
