Oscar Bobb says Friday’s PL 2 trip to Brighton offers City’s Elite Development Squad the perfect opportunity to bounce back from Tuesday’s disappointing Papa John’s Trophy loss at Rotherham.

Bobb and his EDS colleagues make a quick return to action just 72 hours after suffering a 5-0 Papa John’s reverse to the Millers in our final group game.

League leaders City will step out on the South Coast seeking to get back to winning ways having suffered back-to-back losses with Brian Barry-Murphy’s side also being edged out 3-1 at home to Tottenham last weekend.

However, attacking winger Bobb believes that Friday’s trip to Brighton - a game CITY+ subscribers will be able to watch live - offers City an ideal opportunity to put the record straight.

And he says the nature of Tuesday’s Rotherham loss in particular could yet provide some valuable long-term lessons for the players.

“We’ve had a lot of good results, but it is very important to stay grounded and keep doing what we have been doing and Tuesday won’t be a major setback for sure,” Bobb insisted.

“We have a new game on Friday and from Wednesday the focus was on Brighton and the league.

“It’s been a great start to the season, and although you never want to lose, Tuesday might a good experience as it does humble you in a way and maybe let us know where we are as a group and as individuals.

“This year we have been lucky to have three big competitions that we are in and the fact we have a new opportunity on Friday definitely makes it easier.

“Looking at the Papa John’s Trophy as a whole, I think we can definitely take the positives away even though it was a bit tough the other night.

“When we reflect, we will think about the things we did well.

“We created a lot of chances and did have a decent first half and, obviously, it was a great experience for us young players looking to the future.

“This is what we want to do in the coming years.

“They beat us in both boxes and were just better than us. We need to move on and focus on Brighton.”
