City’s title aspirations were handed a further boost with the news that second-placed Liverpool were held to a 5-5 draw by Manchester United and, with our rivals faltering, Lewis says our fine form is a mark of our championship credentials.
“I think it’s massive,” he said when asked about the Academy outfit’s impressive run.

“Going into the end of the season with only eight games left and having a win streak like that shows to the rest of the league what we are about and how serious we are about it.
“Liverpool are challenging us for the title and with them drawing, that’s huge for us.”
The score line did not emphasize the scale of City’s performance against Everton.
Wilkinson’s youngsters had to grow into the game as the Toffees proved a tough nut to crack with their physical presence testing us in midfield and the final third.
Lewis was happy with how his teammates dealt with Everton’s physicality and, whilst the margin of victory could have been greater, the skipper was pleased with his team’s performance.
“I think we did well,” he added.

“We knew they had their big striker, so we had the two defenders dealing with him and full-backs just tucking under, so, any second ball we took it very well.
“Everton sat off even when we scored so it was hard to break them down, but we stayed patient and got the win in the end, which was tough.
“We had chances, more than enough chances, but at the end of the day we got the win, so it was fine.”
