Manchester City's Under-18s finished off their U18 Premier League North campaign in style with an emphatic 6-0 win over Sunderland at the Academy of Light, with Carlos Borges netting four of City's goals.

Luca Barrington opened the scoring with just ten minutes played before Borges netted his first of the afternoon to double our advantage shortly afterwards.

The winger grabbed his second strike with 20 minute left on the clock, before setting up Josh Adam to score our fourth just five minutes later.

Borges would complete his hat-trick with ten minutes to go, before the winger rounded off the scoring with his fourth in added time, finishing off a dominant display from Ben Wilkinson‘s side.

WHAT HAPPENED

With the Premier League North title secured, Ben Wilkinson‘s side were looking to produce a strong finish to the campaign ahead of the upcoming national final.

And his players delivered that right from the first whistle on Wearside, seeing us take the lead just after the ten minute mark, as Barrington opened the scoring after he was set up by Adam.

Not satisfied with just the one-goal advantage, we extended our lead just nine minutes later, this time Dire Mebude and Borges linking up, with the latter scoring our second of the match.

The scoreline was not flattering to City, who dominated proceedings on Wearside, enjoying extended spells of possession, and not allowing a single shot on target from our North-East rivals.

Following the half-time break, the game continued in a similar vain, with Sunderland failing to trouble our back-line as we kept control of proceedings at the Academy of Light.

With 20 minutes left to play, we added to our advantage, once more through Borges, scoring his second of the game and increasing our own tally to three.

Just five minutes later, three became four, with Borges this time turning provider, setting up Adam to score our fourth of the game, putting the result well beyond doubt.

And with ten minutes to go, Borges secured a well-deserved hat-trick, netting his third of the game after being set-up once more by Mebude.

However, that wasn’t to be the end of the scoring from City or Borges as the Portuguese winger netted late in added time to score his fourth and our sixth of the game, finishing off a dominant display from Ben Wilkinson‘s side.

HOW WE LINED UP

Josh McNamara lined up in goal against the Black Cats, and he was guarded by a defence made up of Luca Barrington and Tomas Galvez as the full-backs, with Isaac Smith and Max Alleyne at centre-back.

In midfield, Shea Charles provided the defensive cover, with Josh Adam and Nico O’Reilly tasked with the more attacking roles.

Dire Mebude took up his usual spot on the right wing, Carlos Borges was on the left and Will Dickson spearheaded the attack as the striker.
