City EDS will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they travel to Tyneside to take on Newcastle U21s on Friday afternoon.

Attilio Lombardo’s men suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Reading at the Madejski Stadium last Sunday.

As a result of that first league defeat of 2013, City were leapfrogged at the top of National Group 2 by the Royals, so a positive result will be required to stay in the hunt for automatic qualification for the competition’s latter stages.

Ian Lawlor and Angus Gunn will be in contention for the no.1 shirt after Eirik Johansen agreed a loan deal with Scunthorpe until the end of the season.

Newcastle, managed by former City man Willie Donachie, have won one, lost one and drawn one so far in 2013.

Kick-off is at 1pm for the match which takes place at Northumberland FA’s base on Whitley Road, Newcastle.
