City EDS return to action in the Barclays u21 Premier League on Monday night when Liverpool are the visitors to Hyde FC.

Patrick Vieira’s men currently lie in 12th place in the 22-team league, level on points with the Merseysiders after four games.

Last time out, City drew 1-1 with West Ham at Upton Park after Adam Drury’s deflected strike was cancelled out late on by a superb strike from Irons forward George Moncur.

City met Liverpool twice at this level last season, losing once in the corresponding fixture at Hyde and drawing 2-2 at the Reds’ Kirkby base.

Many of the players involved with City’s 4-1 UEFA Youth League win over Viktoria Plzen are expected to feature in this clash, including goalscorers Devante Cole, Marcos Lopes and Sinan Bytyqi.

This meeting with Liverpool comes too soon for last season’s top-scorer Jose Angel Pozo who continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury, though the Spanish striker is expected to be in contention for the UEFA Youth League encounter against Bayern Munich on Wednesday week.

It was announced in the past week that from the 2014/15 season and beyond, the league will be divided into two divisions, based on their league position at the end of the current 2013/14 season, with promotion and relegation between them (with two teams up and two teams down) for future seasons.

That will mean that both Division One and Two will have 11 teams, as the Premier League targets increased competition at under-21 level over the coming years.

Entry for supporters at Hyde will be £3 for adults and £1 for concessions on the gate.

Kick-off is at 7pm and we will be bringing you live updates on our Twitter account, plus a match report and post-match reaction here on mcfc.co.uk.
