Angelino has been announced as winner of the 2014/15 LG EDS Player of the Year award after an outstanding season in City blue.

The left back was promoted to Patrick Vieira’s squad full time in the summer of 2014 and immediately established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet, an integral part of the side that lifted the International Premier League Cup and shone on the UEFA Youth League stage.

His displays at EDS level soon caught the eye of Manuel Pellegrini, and the young Spaniard was named on the bench for a Premier League game against Sunderland in December 2014 – while still aged just 17.

Now furthering his education away on loan, Angelino is now learning alongside the likes of David Villa, Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo on a daily basis in a temporary spell with New York City FC, where he has already nailed down a starting berth and is testing his skills in MLS.

As a result, he was unable to collect his award, which was announced to loud cheers at City Live.

Speaking about the honour, the18-year-old told mcfc.co.uk: “I’m really happy to get this trophy – hard work pays off.

“The staff here have really helped me improve my defensive aspect [this year]. Obviously there is a long way to go but I’m really happy with the season.

“I’d like to thanks the fans for voting, my family for being behind me and helping me, and everyone at the club.”
