Bersant Celina has urged the City fans to turn out in force when Patrick Vieira’s side take on Porto in the Under-21 Premier League International Cup Final this Friday.

The talented Kosovo-born youngster has already bagged 18 goals at EDS and Under-18 level this season as well as appearing on the bench for the senior side against Sheffield Wednesday.

Now Celina is hoping to play his part in landing the first trophy for the EDS and is hoping the Academy Stadium atmosphere matches that of the recent FA Youth Cup final against Chelsea.

“We’ll be going for it and playing in front of our own fans at the Academy Stadium will obviously be an advantage,” said the skilful forward.

“We love playing there and the fans have been fantastic – so much so, that when there were discussions over the venue for  the FA Youth Cup final against Chelsea, I wanted to play there rather than the Etihad Stadium because I knew it would be packed out and there was a really good atmosphere.

We’re hoping for something similar against Porto because that could make the difference on the night

City have seen off the challenges of Benfica, Schalke, Celtic and Leicester City to reach the final  while Porto have already faced English opposition three times along the way, beating Norwich and Fulham but losing in the group stage to Chelsea.

Celina is expecting a strong and technical Porto to push the young Blues all the way.

“I don’t know that much about Porto, but teams of that stature from Portugal always produce good players so we are expecting a difficult game,” said the 18-year-old.

“Everyone wants to win something this year because we’ve been so close with the FA Youth Cup and did well in the UEFA Youth League so we want a trophy to show for the season we’ve had and hopefully, we will be able to deliver one.”
