The Red Devils inflicted a 4-0 defeat on Patrick Vieira’s side just ten days ago and were confirmed as champions of the Barclays u21 Premier League a few days later.
George Evans played all 90 minutes of that encounter at Old Trafford and he has revealed that the prospect of taking a measure of revenge is an extra incentive for the lifelong City supporter into the game.
“It’s a local derby so it’s a massive game for all of us,” he told mcfc.co.uk.
“We want to finish off the season on a win and obviously we’re looking for a bit of payback after last week.
“We want to get back to winning ways again against them – I think we actually played well in that game at Old Trafford but we just couldn’t score and then we let in a couple of soft goals.
“I think we should have challenged for the title ourselves but it’s not worked out that way, so we will look to show what we can do on Saturday and hopefully beat the team who did win the competition.”
City head into their final game on the back of one of their biggest wins of the campaign.
Goals from Aaron Nemane, Olivier Ntcham, Brandon Barker and Kelechi Iheanacho gave Vieira’s men a 4-0 win over Southampton at St Mary’s – ideal preparation for a u21 derby, according to Evans.
“Hopefully we can show a performance like we did against Southampton and get the win,” he said.
“For me it was up there with our best performances of the season – I thought we played really well.
“We kept to our philosophy of play again, playing the ball out from the back and creating a lot of chances.
“On another day I think we could have won by even more goals in the end.”
Evans has enjoyed an excellent season both in the heart of City’s defence and on his loan spell at Scunthorpe United where he appeared on 16 occasions.
The youngster was selected to travel to Abu Dhabi in the winter with the first-team where he caught the eye with a strong showing against Hamburg, setting up Stevan Jovetic for a goal with a brilliantly accurate long ball.
Now Evans is targeting a place on the plane for the post-season tour to the United States which kicks off next week.
“I’ve been really happy with this season, it’s been a good one for me,” George reflected.
“Going to Scunthorpe was a really good experience for me.
“My main aim to break through to the first-team so I’m really hoping to go on the post-season tour to America and then hopefully onto the pre-season tour to help me in my goal.”
Kick-off is at 2pm on Saturday at the Academy Stadium where Seasoncard holders and Cityzens can attend for free if claiming or buying tickets in person.
