The International Premier League Cup winners return to domestic action with the u21 Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Patrick Vieira’s side have some ground to make up on the league leaders -as it stands, the Blues are ten points off the table summit but, with two games in hand and two matches against United to come, there is still the possibility of a league and cup double.

City could be boosted in their quest of a strong finish by the return of those who have been plying their trades on loan up and down the Football League.

Forced for the majority of the campaign to field young sides featuring many of those who may normally be playing under-18s football, City have done incredibly well to still have an outside chance in title race but reinforcements are now potentially back in the fold.

Devante Cole, Seko Fofana, Jordy Hiwula and Greg Leigh have all returned to the club and may be back in the reckoning for selection across town.

That’s if they can displace the lads who claimed the first silverware of the Vieira era in thrilling circumstances with their 1-0 win over FC Porto at the Academy Stadium on Friday night.

Kelechi Iheanacho continued his red-hot scoring streak with the only goal to bring a trophy to City Football Academy for the first time.

Vieira could not hide the pride he had in his charges: “”For them to win the trophy it shows them that if you work hard you can achieve a reward,” Vieira told CityTV. “I feel really happy, really proud.

“It’s a special moment, I’m really pleased and really happy because the players deserve it and as a staff I think we’ve been working really well.

“We’re going to enjoy it as well, it’s my first one as a coach, as a manager and the first one for the majority of the staff so we are really pleased and really delighted.”

The sides have met just once this season, although technically it was last season as the Manchester Senior Cup final had to be played in August 2014 rather than at the end of 2013/14.

City will be out for revenge as they suffered a 4-1 defeat at Hyde on that occasion.

United are unbeaten since 2 February – since, they have won five and drawn four of nine games, while City have lost just one of their last eight.

Kick-off at Old Trafford is at 7pm and we’ll have our usual Twitter coverage @MCFC, as well as a match report on mcfc.co.uk at full-time.
