Having already guaranteed second place in Group C, Simon Davies’ side fell two behind in the first half and looked on course for their third loss of the European campaign.
However, goals from Rodney Kongolo, Sancho himself and Lorenzo Gonzalez in the second half turned the score on its head to give City the win.
England U17 international Sancho revealed that despite the poor showing in the first half, he always believed City could take the three points.
He said: “At half-time Simon Davies motivated us and told us to turn it around and from there we knew exactly what to do.
“We went 3-4-3 which was more attacking. That meant it was harder for the opposition because we had more bodies in midfield and they couldn’t get out.
“I never doubted that we couldn’t come back and win the match but we had to take our chances well in the second half. Everyone worked hard as they always do in this team and that’s why we’re going into the next round.”
Sancho’s equaliser was a powered header from 10 yards after meeting a Paolo Fernandes cross from the right.
“It was a big moment for the team. If I didn’t score that then we might not have gone on to win the match so I’m very happy and thanks to Paolo for the great cross. I’m not used to scoring headers but I’ll take goals however they come,” said Sancho.
The 16-year-old was delighted to star alongside a number of regular U18s players including Ed Francis, Joel Latibeaudiere and Matt Smith and late substitute Gonzalez, who tapped home the winner.
He said: “I’m very happy for Lorenzo to come on and score. That’s what he does best and I’m glad he got to show it today.
“The chemistry between the U18s in the team like Ed, Joel and Matt kept us going through the match.”
