Simon Davies’ youngsters have made an excellent start to the season, sitting fourth in the Premier League 2 table, but Fernandes expects this to be a challenge the Blues have not faced yet.
He said: “Tottenham are one of the biggest clubs in the world so their team will have a bit of everything. We’ve played technical teams and physical teams but we expect them to have a bit of both.
“It’s a lot different to Spain because over there you won’t get to play in the big stadiums a lot and it’s a good experience for a lot of us to be ready for first team football.”
On a personal note for Fernandes, this month marks two years since his arrival from Real Zaragoza.
The 18-year-old has moved on a level so far this season and has impressed while switching between creative midfield and wing roles, with his two strikes against Sunderland last month particularly catching the eye.
The Spaniard has remained humble however, citing the impact coach Simon Davies has had on him in the early part of the season.
“Since we started for this season he’s been helping us tactically and positioning. It’s great to have a coach that talks to you about anything and he always ask how we are feeling physically so to feel like he’s there for you is a big help,” he said.
Fernandes does have some personal goals though.
“I want to keep playing every week for the Elite Development Squad; getting as many minutes and goals as I can. By the end of the season I would love to be more involved with the first team because it’s something we are all dreaming of,” he stated.
