The Blues will be looking for more of the same after a thoroughly convincing 4-1 victory at home to Borussia Monchengladbach in their opening group fixture.
Simon Davies’ side stretched their unbeaten run to four in the league but had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Leicester City last Friday at the Etihad Stadium.
City will go into this game as strong favourites with Celtic recording no wins in the last seven fixtures, but where will the key battles be won or lost?
Tosin Adarabioyo vs Calvin Miller
Despite it being Tosin’s first competitive fixture this season, the City defender showed a great level of maturity at home against Monchengladbach.
The 18 year old looked full of confidence on the ball, eager to express himself and springboard some of City’s attacks. His defensive positioning throughout was impressive and Tosin dealt with Borussia’s attacking threats throughout.
Since then he’s kept his place in Davies’ plans and will look to put in a similar performance against Celtic.
Striker Calvin Miller is yet to find the back of the net this season for The Hoops but he’ll be looking to recapture the form he showed in this competition last season, when he netted an impressive double against Hungarian side Puskás Akadémia.
Lukas Nmecha vs Sam Wardrop
Nmecha has been in stellar form recently – scoring 4 in his 3 last games in all competitions. Two strikes against Monchengladbach followed by another brace from the bench away at Sunderland has taken the Englishman’s tally to six already for the campaign.
The striker has been a key figure in City’s attack – Aaron Nemane and Javairo Dilrosun have provided great service to the forward and will look to provide similar service up in Glasgow.
Celtic showed a strong test of reliance to withstand the pressure FC Barcelona U19’s put the Hoops under to come away with a respectable 2-1 defeat in the opening fixture.
Sam Wardrop in particular demonstrated a good level of organisation and leadership at the back despite his team not having a great deal of possession.
Celtic will be looking to create more chances on Wednesday night, but will need to wary of City’s threatening attacking force.
