Manchester City travel to Liverpool on Monday for their penultimate Premier League 2 match of the season and here we chronicle everything you need to know.

When and where

Simon Davies’ City side will travel to Tranmere Rovers’ Prenton Park for the Premier League 2 tie. Kick-off is at 7pm on Monday 24 April.

What it could mean

Everton’s draw at Chelsea on Friday night means they sit six points ahead of City at the top of the Premier League 2 table with two games left for the Blues.

City’s goal difference of +20 is eight behind the Toffees and City will win have to win both of their remaining matches by a hefty margin and hope Liverpool can beat Everton on the final day if they are to win the title.

Liverpool, in third, sit five points behind City and five points ahead of Arsenal so will be looking to win to cement third place and put pressure on City for second.

Highlights

City beat an experienced Liverpool side at the Academy Stadium back in October thanks to a Paolo Fernandes strike.

Form

City are in scintillating form in the Premier League 2, with only Arsenal denying them all three points in their last five fixtures. The Blues have found the net 18 times in their last five showings too.

Liverpool also have a lot to be proud of recently, having won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five matches. Victories over the likes of Chelsea and Spurs in recent weeks have made the third place spot their own.

Liverpool players to look out for

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn, both still teenagers, have made the jump up to Jurgen Klopp’s first team in recent weeks but could still be involved at Prenton Park.

Creative midfielder Harry Wilson has captained the team for much of the season and has an elegant style to his game. 17-year-old striker Rhian Brewster scored in the FA Youth Cup match between the sides and has impressed when moving up to U23 level.
