Manchester City are pleased to announce they will enter an Academy side into the 2017/18 Checkatrade Trophy.
Traditionally a knock-out competition for League One and Two sides, it was revamped last season to include a group stage, with 16 Premier League and Championship sides entering under-21 squads.
It saw an increase in the number of homegrown under-21 players starting matches in the competition and a recent ballot saw two thirds of Clubs vote to keep the 64-team format for the coming campaign.
Simon Davies said: “We are delighted to be involved in this competition next season. We feel it is a great opportunity for our most talented young players to test themselves in a senior environment.
“We want to keep finding new ways of improving the development path for our academy players and this seems like a logical next step.”
