Manchester City will face Salzburg on Wednesday 8 February and here’s all you need to know ahead of the UEFA Youth League tie.

What is it and how did they get here?

Salzburg and Manchester City’s U19s will be battling it out to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Youth League.

Having finished second in Group C of the group stage that followed the schedule of the Champions League, City have an extra match to play.

Although the winner of the group was guaranteed passage to the Round of 16, the runner-up must face one of the sides from the domestic champions path - in our case it’s Salzburg.

The sides on the domestic champions path are U19 teams that won their respective league but were not granted entry to the group stage as their first team did not qualify for the Champions League.

When and where?

Manchester City will travel to Salzburg, Austria for the one-off tie. Kick-off is at 5pm (GMT) at the Red Bull Arena.

Who can play?

As the U19s restriction falls between domestic U18s and U23s, the side tends to be a mix of those two teams. The eleven players with the most minutes in Simon Davies’ UYL squad, that are available for selection, are: Daniel Grimshaw, Demeaco Duhaney, Tosin Adarabioyo, Ed FrancisCameron Humphreys, Sadou Diallo, Rodney Kongolo, Paolo Fernandes, Brahim Diaz, Jadon Sancho and Aaron Nemane.

Salzburg stars to look out for...

Having scored a total of 17 goals in their ties with fellow national champions Vardar (of Macedonia) and Kairat Almaty (of Kazakhstan), it’s fair to say the Austrians have an attacking intent.

Scorer of seven of those goals is 18-year-old Kosovan striker Mergim Berisha. Berisha also scored 14 goals in 30 appearances for FC Liefering in the Austrian second tier so will certainly look to occupy the attentions of Adarabioyo and Humphreys.
