A brace from Demeaco Duhaney and goals from Lukas Nmecha and Jadon Sancho saw City to victory at the Academy Stadium but Davies believes it was City’s off-the-ball work rate that was most impressive.
He said: “They did the ugly side really well tonight which is what I questioned of them before the game and some of the quality they produced is what I know they have got.
“We spoke before the game about how the team has come first throughout all the season and that’s why we’re in a strong position.
“More importantly, they’re going to go on to first team football and they need to be trusted. When people made mistakes tonight there were players throwing their bodies on the line for the teammate and that really impressed me.
“From a disappointing result on Monday night after being two goals up and dropping a couple of points there, it was really good to get the win tonight with some great team goals.”

City’s right-back Duhaney was awarded man of the match after an excellent attacking performance and Davies is delighted to see the 18-year-old playing so well.
He said: “It’s worked really well when we’ve got a wide player that comes inside a lot like Paolo Fernandes or Brahim Diaz does as Demeaco’s a pacey full-back that attacks well on the outside. He’s been really consistent, probably the most consistent of late but it’s been a good night for all the team.”
