City saw off Manchester United in the Premier League 2 derby on Monday night and will face Tottenham Hotspur this Friday.
Davies’ side are currently two points behind leaders Everton at the top of the Premier League 2 table but he insists development, not league position, is his main focus.
He said: “For us it’s two games in five days, which is closer to a first team schedule, so we’ve spoken to the boys about how they’re managing themselves away from the training ground to make sure that they’re ready to put in a good performance.
“The league is important but making sure these players are in a position to make their mark on senior football and have long, successful careers is the main reason for what we’re doing here.”

City beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane in October thanks to goals from Javairo Dilrosun and Paolo Fernandes but Davies expects a tough challenge at the Academy Stadium.
He said: “Tottenham drew with a good Chelsea side at the weekend and they’re a very tough team. I’m very surprised at their position in the league but they have some very good players and a good way of playing that comes from the way the first team manager plays.
“There are similarities there and it will be an interesting game.”
Manchester City welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Academy Stadium on Friday 13 January. Head to the ticket office for more information on how you can support our future.
