That’s according to Rabbi Matondo, who believes if the young Blues play with the same intensity as they did after the break at Valley Parade, then they will be more than a match for any side.
Trailing 2-0 against the League One outfit, City pulled one back through the Welsh winger, but couldn’t force the equaliser their second half play deserved in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Saturday’s Premier League 2 fixture against the Hammers gives them a chance to put things right and Matondo is confident Simon Davies’ side can get a positive result.
“We were disappointed in the week because after the break we put in a great performance and were unlucky not to get something,” said the 17-year-old.
“But going into West Ham at the weekend, we can definitely win if we play like we did in the second half against Bradford.
“It was a learning curve and we will learn from it and take that into our next game.”
The manager was in agreement with Matondo’s evaluation of the Blues’ display as they dominated possession and looked a constant threat going forward.
And that’s why the Liverpool born, Cardiff raised youngster does not feel his team mates will suffer a hangover from the defeat, but he has outlined an area for improvement.
“Of course, the way we played in the second half gives us confidence for the West Ham game,” he added.
“We could have won against Bradford but we need to take our chances in the box.”
Motoring down the right wing Matondo looked effortlessly composed to score when the opportunity arose in midweek.
It was a breakaway goal that left defenders in his wake, but the winger feels he can be a threat in all manner of attacking situations and hopes that leads to more starts for the EDS.
“If I can, I want to try and get in behind, but I am confident in one on one situations.
“I just want to try and use my pace to create chances.
“Training’s intense so I’m improving every day and I need to keep showing what I can produce on the pitch.
“Starting for the U23s gives me confidence and hopefully I can continue to prove to the manager that I should be starting in this team.”
