Their recent win marked their second victory in the competition and took their points tally up to nine – the same as visitors, Derby.
The EDS boss believes that Derby were an organised side and that his side’s win was a credit to the players.
“I thought the boys showed a discipline,” Davies explained after the match.
“It’s quite tough sometimes when you’re playing a side that’s very organised and, in general, sit behind the ball.
“It’s part of their [Derby’s] team tactics - they’ve got a really good counter attacking tactic.
“They [Derby] just beat Liverpool on Monday, who’re top of the league and have won six out of six, so it’s no mean feat to come and put a display on like that.
“It’s a credit to the players.”
The manager also shined light on match star, Lukas Nmecha, after he secured a hat-trick on his return from injury.
“It’s been a frustrating time for Lukas [Nmecha], because he took a bad injury to the back which he picked up, probably in pre-season, but it didn’t come to light until the first couple of games of the season.
“It’s one of these freak accidents, so we took our time with him and gave him enough scope to get himself right because it’s an important season for Lukas, as it is with a lot of the players.
“We’ve been patient with him and although he still needs time to get back to his best he sure made an impact.”
Next up, Man City EDS face Bradford City away at the Northern Commercials Stadium in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday 24 October.
