Deficiencies at both ends of the pitch left Simon Davies frustrated with his side’s performance after Manchester City suffered a 3-0 defeat to Everton in the Premier League 2.

The EDS boss was left ruing the Blues’ profligacy in front of goal and felt their game management was not at the required level as the Toffees condemned them to a third league defeat of the season.

It was a tough night for Davies’ young charges, who were facing an Everton outfit that contained four players with first team or Football League experience, while the home side were without Phil Foden and Joel Latibeaudiere, who are away with England.

The manager, however, had no complaints with the result but was left disappointed that tactics honed on the training ground were not put into action.

“It was probably one of our worst performances this season,” he reflected.

“I thought the score line was slightly unfair because we had some chances of our own, but if we’re not clinical and they are then it will end up like it did.

“At times, we didn’t manage the game well and the second and third goals came from things we spoke about in the week.

“The better players can take that information and put it into process in a game and a few of us fell short.”

As always, Davies’ considered, long-term approach remains at the forefront of his mind.

It’s a performance he wants to remedy quickly, but despite his frustrations, found several positives.

Not least of all the maturing Brahim Diaz and how his young side can learn from the challenge presented by the Toffees.

“I thought Brahim was the best player on the pitch,” he added.

“Some players are reaching a good level of consistency, but some switched off and I’ll have to rectify that quickly.

“There’s nothing to get too alarmed about. We have to keep pushing these players and giving them the correct challenges and that was another one.

“It was a tough game and there wasn’t too much in it, but there are areas we need to improve in.”

Meanwhile, there was some positive news on Daniel Grimshaw, who was stretchered off in the first half with a head injury.

“It was a precaution (the substitution),” explained Davies.

“It was a knock to the head and he felt a little dizzy and like he was going to be sick, but it’s not as bad as we expected.

“He was walking around the dressing room and will have further check-ups.”
