Goals from strikers Lorenzo Gonzalez and Nabil Touaizi-Zoubdi secured the win for City, taking Paul Harsley’s side’s total points tally up to 30 - in the manager’s first season in charge.
“There’s two ways of looking at the season” said Harsley. “From a results point of view we’ve been up and down, and I think we’ve finished similarly to last season. We had a great run in the Checkatrade which was brilliant, but we didn’t do so well in the Champions League.
“But in terms of development, we’ve had five lads make their debuts and lots of lads training regularly with the first team, as well as getting a good price for Rabbi Matondo as he’s now gone abroad, so from a development point of view there’s lots to be pleased with.”
One of the youngest in the squad - and the creator of City’s first goal this evening - Tommy Doyle, had to overcome an injury at the start of the season, but looks back fondly at the campaign as a whole.
“Obviously when I’m playing against the older and bigger players I’m testing myself physically and mentally” said Doyle. “But I’ve had a taste of it now and I loved it, so I’m ready to go into the break and see what happens next year.
“Coming back from injury I feel fitter, stronger and that I’ve improved. I’ve worked hard to get back to my best and if anything I don’t want the season to end now!”
The manager echoed Doyle’s positive view on the season, and feels the team are in a position to be even better next year.
“It’s been great for me in my first season here” said Harsley. “We now have an even better understanding of what we’re working with and working towards, so next season will be exciting!”
