An early strike from Danny Sturridge proved to be the only goal of the game against Liverpool on an evening where torrential rain, particularly in the second half, made life difficult for both sides.
Despite the soaking conditions, both sides provided some good entertainment and kept the ball on the deck, and speaking to mcfc.co.uk afterwards Glyn told us:
“It was a nice occasion to play in the main stadium, I don’t think that these young lads get too many opportunities to play here so when we had the chance it was nice to do so.
“That said, we did not play as well as we have been recently but we stuck to our task in difficult conditions but I can’t remember Liverpool having too many chances either. 1-0 sounds close, but Daniel Sturridge could have added to his tally and maybe had a hat-trick.
“It was good for Danny because that was his first full 90 minutes, and it’s difficult for lads like him because they want to be around the squad and pushing for a first-team spot. It is important for him to get some match time in under his belt.”
Tuesday night also provided a first chance for Glauber Berti to impress since his arrival from Nuremburg in August, the Brazilian defender turning in a composed display in front of Mark Hughes that also drew plaudits from Glyn.
“Glauber did well, I had him alongside Ben Mee as two left-footed centre halves and they worked hard. He looks strong and competitive, he won a lot of headers , there may be a language problem but that’s probably because I talk too fast! He’s enjoying it, and this is a good place to be at the moment.”
Another to impress was Vladimir Weiss, the Slovakian winger looking to have both grown and filled out since his last appearance at CoMS in the Youth Cup final win in April.
Glyn continues, “What’s pleasing about Vlad is that we know he can win games on his own, unlock defences and score great goals. But to progress to the highest level, and to impress the Manager, you need to have the defensive side to your game as well. He worked hard, tracked back well and there was a sliding tackle back in the corner on 85 minutes. There’s no question about his ability, I hope he develops and understands the role he needs to play.”
