Jordy got England’s scoring under way in the 23rd minute to send the Three Lions on to a convincing 3-0 win over Estonia in Tallinn as part of the UEFA European U19 Championship qualifying round.
“The manager set us the target of getting across our markers to get onto crosses into the box and fortunately I managed to do that,” said the striker.
It’s a great feeling to score on my debut as I’ve watched this team for a while and I’m really happy to get my chance and to mark it with a goal.
...Jordy Hiwula...
“It’s an honour to pull on the England shirt at any level but to do it for the first time for the under-19s is great.”
It was a great delivery from West Ham’s Blair Turgott which presented Jordy with the opportunity to get off the mark for his country at this level, adding to his two goals for England under-18s.
Turgott and Chuba Akpom scored England’s other goals on the night.
Hiwula has already scored four goals this season for City EDS and he will be hoping to keep his place in the XI for the matches against Faroe Islands and Ukraine later this week.
The top two teams after these games will make it through to the Elite Qualifying Round which will take place next spring.
First-team debutant in the week, Denis Suarez won the competition last summer with Spain and Jordi will be aiming to match his teammate’s accomplishment in Lithuania next July.
He will next meet up with the EDS in Turkey for their NextGen Series match against Fenerbahce on 4 October.
