Jordi Hiwula’s England U19s ensured that they would top their European Championship qualifying group with a 1-1 draw against Ukraine in Tallinn.

The City EDS marksman was desperately unlucky not to add to his goal in the first qualifier against Estonia, as he was thwarted by Ukraine keeper  Bogdan Sarnavskiy on several occasions.

Noel Blake’s Three Lions side only needed a point to finish top of their group and go through to the Elite Qualifying stage in the spring and they got it courtesy of a dramatic last minute leveller.

Ukraine thought they had won it in the 88th minute when Vladyslav Pavlenko pounced to put them ahead but Everton forward Hallam Hope came up with a late, late equaliser to put England through with seven points.

England U19s won their first match 3-0 against Estonia before putting Faroe Islands to the sword with a convincing 6-0 rout. Jordi was rested for the match against the Faroese minnows but was a livewire throughout the Ukraine encounter and played all 90 minutes.

Jordy will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of teammate Denis Suarez who won 2012’s European Championship with Spain if England get through to the 2013 tournament finals taking place in Lithuania.

We’ll keep you up to date with how Jordi gets on in the Elite Qualifiers in the spring here on mcfc.co.uk.
