City EDS take on Liverpool U21s away at Melwood on Monday afternoon, looking to shake off their 2-0 defeat to PSG in their previous match.

Attilio Lombardo’s men are unbeaten in the Barclays U21 Premier League, having defeated Middlesbrough and drawn with Chelsea in their first two matches.

City will face a Liverpool team whoregistered their first win in the new league against Crystal Palace last week and the manager recognises that after their latest NextGen Series defeat, his team need time to reach their maximum potential.

“There are some players in this team born in 1994 and 1995, so this was a great experience for them to play against a good PSG side to improve their mentality and their overall play,” said the former Sampdoria forward.

I know that I need time and the players also need time for this to happen but if they follow me I believe that they can get to that next level.

...Attilio Lombardo...

City’s new EDS boss was keen to look to the positives and beyond the result after they were unable to register the club’s first win in the competition.

“I’m disappointed with the result but I can’t say anything negative about my guys,” was the Italian’s verdict.

“We played well in the first half and had a great chance but in the second half we didn’t play as well and after we conceded the first goal we were less compact and we have to improve.”

Denis Suarez has been City’s star man again so far this season, but Lombardo was keen not to put too much pressure on the 18-year old.

“Suarez is a very good player but we have other good players and what they do on the pitch will decide if they can make the step up.”

The game against Liverpool gets under way at 14:00 and we will bring you live goal updates on our Official Twitter account, as well as a match report after full-time.
