City EDS play their penultimate Barclays U21 fixture of the calendar year when they take on Wolves at Telford FC on Monday night.
With two games left to climb off the bottom of National Group 2, City face a high-flying Wolves outfit looking to cement second place.
Last time the teams met, a late Scott Sinclair penalty cancelled out Roland Zubar’s goal to make the score 1-1 in a tightly contested match at the Etihad Stadium.
It was in that match that Denis Suarez picked up the injury that has ruled him out since and it’s thought that he will not return to the Elite Development Squad until the New Year.
In City’s last encounter, an under-19s selection were knocked out of the NextGen Series after a 2-1 defeat to PSG although the u21s drew their last league game 0-0 with Crystal Palace.
With the under-18s naming their youngest selection of the season so far in Saturday’s win over Wolves, the EDS team could also be at its most junior.
Due to a combination of injuries and loan spells, seven of the 11 players who started City’s draw with Wolves will not be taking part, so it offers an opportunity for second year scholars to stake their claims at this higher level.
