First half chances for Nimely, Veseli and Roman must have left the Blues wondering what they had to do to score and Blackpool’s goal continued to live a charmed life following a dipping drive from Wabara and 30-yard effort from Benali just before the break.
City didn’t have to wait much longer to finally turn a chance into a goal as on 48 minutes Ahmad Benali spun to tuck away the opening goal from close range following Jeremy Helan’s cross.
On 64 minutes Blackpool, who hadn’t been in the game until now, were awarded a penalty that was duly converted following Courtney Meppen Walter’s challenge where he appeared to win the ball cleanly.
Three minutes later and City were awarded a penalty of their own but Alex Nimely saw his effort saved despite two attempts.
With ten minutes left the seasiders booked their place in the semi finals with the winning goal as the unmarked Blackpool striker fired past Stuart Taylor.
