Two goals in the space of two minutes from Denis Suarez and Emyr Huws and a Jordy Hiwula penalty gave City their first NextGen win at the eighth time of asking, coming from behind to see off a talented Fenerbahce side.
City made a couple of changes to the team that were edged out by PSG, with Marcos Lopes away on international duty with Portugal and Albert Rusnak out injured.
There was a place for Jose Angel Pozo in Attilio Lombardo’s starting XI after impressing for the under-18s and in a small cameo against PSG last time out.
The 16-year old was hardly in awed by the occasion, bursting to life with a few flashes of brilliance to illuminate an engaging night’s football.
If the Blues had any hope that the visitors would be jet lagged from their lengthy trip over from Istanbul they were quickly dashed as Fenerbahce burst to life from the first whistle – pressing and harrying in an attempt to get the physical advantage over a young City selection.
Beykan Simsek, the Turkish side’s no.10 was the dangerman and proved to be a real handful for George Evans in the holding role, as he flittered malevolently from left to right, linking moves and firing powerful long range efforts that had Ian Lawlor at full stretch on several occasions.
Fenerbahce cashed in on their early pressure, grabbing the lead in the 11th minute when Hakan Cinemre found himself unmarked in the penalty area and headed powerfully past a stranded Lawlor.
City got a hold on the midfield battle in the second period, Evans and Huws combining well to keep the visitors at bay.
After 68 minutes, a glorious raking 40 yard pass from Ellis Plummer was taken down with aplomb by Hiwula who was pulled back by the Turkish defender which gave the referee no option but to point to the spot.
Suarez duly dispatched his third penalty of the season to level matters.
City pulled ahead two minutes later and it was just reward for another powerhouse performance from Wales U21 midfielder Huws who embarked on a mazy run before firing in a shot which deflected past a wrong footed Akinay to complete the turnaround.
Hiwula was again felled in the final minute and this time he stepped up to convert himself, slamming the ball into the corner.
Fenerbahce will have the opportunity to exact revenge when the teams meet again in Istanbul on 4 October.
