Pep Guardiola’s men kicked off Group G in superb fashion, as Foden pounced on a loose ball eight yards from goal to strike us ahead after just one minute and 54 seconds, claiming the competition’s fastest ever goal and his first conversion in 20 matches for club and country.
Moroccan side Wydad settled themselves after the early setback and threatened a leveller on the half-hour mark, but City’s captain for the day Ederson sprawled expertly to deny Cassius Mailula’s goal-bound effort.
Five minutes before the break, we doubled the lead through the electric Jeremy Doku, who volleyed in from Foden’s in-swinging corner, his first strike in sky blue since January.
We remained in control of proceedings after the interval and almost had a third just before the hour, but Doku’s curling shot was saved well by Wydad goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid.

Guardiola made a triple change bringing on Rodrigo, Oscar Bobb and Erling Haaland, with the latter almost making an instant impact, but he struck just over the bar after great play in the build up by Rico Lewis.
Lewis was then unfortunately shown a straight red card shortly before full-time after winning the ball well, but catching Samuel Obeng on the face accidentally with his foot.
Haaland was denied a stoppage-time goal by Benabid in stoppage time, but we remained in control to secure the three points.
