Savinho believes the advent of City’s FIFA Club World Cup 2025 campaign marks an exciting new beginning for Pep Guardiola’s side.

After what was a frustrating 2024/25 campaign, City kick-start the new season in earnest on Wednesday when we tackle Wydad AC of Morocco in our opening Club World Cup clash in Philadelphia.

City have been in the United States preparing since last Thursday for our opening game in Group G, which gets underway at the Lincoln Financial Field at 17.00 (UK).

And for the Brazilian winger, it’s an exciting prospect with City eager to lay down a marker at the start of what promises to be a new challenge with 32 teams drawn from around the world all competing for the prize.

“Now this is very much the new season for us,” Savinho said.

“I think myself, my team-mates, the coaches, everyone’s really excited about the tournament.

“We’ve put in the hard yards; we’ve prepared well and we’re really ready for tomorrow’s game.

“Last season’s over, we can’t change anything about that now. We’re completely focused on this one.

“We’ve got to take the learnings, learn from the mistakes we made last year and also forget a bit about it as well

“Just concentrate on what we can do. That starts tomorrow.”

Savinho meanwhile is about to embark on his second campaign with City after his move to the Etihad from Girona last summer.

And after enjoying what was a highly promising maiden campaign, the 21-year-old believes he is ready to kick on again and take another great leap forward.

“Yeah, I’m really happy about how it went. I certainly learnt a lot,” Savinho added on his first season at City.

“I felt like I evolved a lot as the season went on. That’s thanks to my teammates, Pep and the coaches as well.

“I’m looking to improve even more this season to improve. To try to get more goals, to get more assists and to be able to help the team.”
