It was a mixed week for City’s loan rangers, as several continue to see a frustrating lack of match action while others continue to notch up valuable league experience.

Jeremy Helan is a regular starter for Sheffield Wednesday and capped a great performance in a 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Championship with the assist for the winning goal.

The 20-year-old sent a clever ball through for Jermaine Johnson to latch on to and guide a low strike into the net earning all three points for the Owls.

Dutch defender Karim Rekik was an unused sub for Rovers in the same game. The Ewood Park outfit have now edged into the relegation places.

Elsewhere in the division, Wayne Bridge played 90 minutes as Brighton saved a point at home to Leicester with a late goal to make it 1-1. The south coast side are still in the hunt for a play-off place as the season edges towards its conclusion.

Alex Nimely is still absent for Crystal Palace with a hamstring injury.

It was a bad week for young keeper Eirik Holmen Johansen, whose Scunthorpe side went 3-0 down to Preston to drop into the League One relegation zone. The Norwegian also made an error for the home side’s second goal, when Nicky Wroe pounced on a poor clearance.

Really disappointed about today’s result. And can only apologise for the second goal. We have to get ourselves together and put the effort..

In League Two, Adam Drury may have been glad not to be involved for Burton Albion as they went down 7-1 to Port Vale on Friday.

Alex Henshall was a 90th minute introduction as Chesterfield won 2-0 against Barnet.

Young defender Ryan McGivern’s loan spell with Scottish side Hibernian continues to be productive, with the Northern Irishman a regular fixture for the Edinburgh-based outfit. Unfortunately, his team went down 3-0 to Champions elect Celtic on Saturday.

On the continent, Roque Santa Cruz  was a 76th minute sub as Malaga earned a 0-0 home draw against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final.
