City defender Karim Rekik has received his first call-up for the Netherlands national team.

The 18-year old defender is currently on a season-long loan at PSV Eindhoven where he has caught the eye with a string of impressive performances.

Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal included both Karim and his PSV teammate Jeffrey Bruma in a provisional 22-man selection for September’s World Cup qualifying double header against Estonia and Andorra.

Rekik has made six appearances for a PSV side that has rocketed to the top of the Dutch league and only conceded three goals in all competitions.

In his latest outing for the Eredivie outfit, he managed to keep ex-Blue Mario Balotelli quiet with a showing that belied his years in a creditable 1-1 Champions League play-off draw with Milan.

While 17-year old striker Zakaria Bakkali has commanded most of the headlines for his three goals in two games, Rekik has also grabbed his own plaudits for his mature and classy displays in the PSV back four.

He was named man of the match on his league debut in the Eredivisie - the 3-2 win over Ado Den Haag.

Karim signed a long-term deal with City in December 2012 and made his first-team debut for the Blues against Reading a few weeks later.

The Den Haag-born centre-back has represented the Netherlands at youth level through a number of age-groups, including, most recently, the under-19s.

Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta have also received international call-ups for Argentina’s World Cup qualifier with Paraguay on 10 September.

Alejandro Sabella’s side lead the South American qualifying group, and can secure safe passage to Brazil 2014 with a victory in next month’s clash.
