Will any of our top five add to their tally against Steve Bruce’s men?
Sergio Aguero: 8
The most famous of Sergio Aguero’s goals against newly-promoted sides is also undoubtedly his most iconic strike in a City shirt ever – no Blues fan (and probably most neutrals!) will ever forget the Argentine’s late goal against Queens Park Rangers to clinch the title in storybook style in May 2012.
Sergio has also been busy against other Premier League new boys, grabbing a brace on his debut against Swansea and hitting another double against Norwich in April 2012.
Edin Dzeko: 7
Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko’s goal against Cardiff last week took him to within one of Aguero in top spot. Edin scored home and away against Southampton last season, and found the back of the net in both games against Queens Park Rangers in the title-winning campaign.
His late equaliser in the second of those fixtures proved vital in paving the way for City’s first Championship in 44 years.
David Silva: 3
Merlin is comfortably top of the assist chart for his City career, but David Silva has also chipped in with a few goals as well.
His appearance from the bench in October 2010 prove the turning-point against Lancashire neighbours Blackpool, and he capped off an influential performance with a beautiful 90th minute goal which would prove the difference between the two sides.
Yaya Toure: 3
With his free-kick against Newcastle on opening day still fresh in the memory, it’s easy to see how Yaya Toure’s striking prowess sees him make the top five in this list.
His most recent effort was a gorgeous curling shot from 20 yards against West Ham in April which flew into the top corner to earn the Blues a deserved three points.
Samir Nasri: 2
Samir Nasri has actually bagged seven goals against the Premier League’s newest sides in the last five years – two in a City shirt and five while wearing the red of Arsenal.
The Frenchman was instrumental in the victory over Southampton in August 2012, as well as scoring the winner in a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Saints, Samir’s perfectly-timed through-ball set up the opening goal for Carlos Tevez.
