City v Leeds United Man of the Match: Sergio Aguero

Micah Richards was our guest Tweeter for the 4-0 FA Cup fifth round win over Leeds United and had a fairly straightforward decision to make when it came to choosing his Man of the Match.

Even in the gloomier moments of this season, one man who you know will never give up the ghost is Sergio Aguero and as Roberto Mancini alluded to in his post-match press conference, when Kun is at the top of his game, City tend to win.

Let’s examine some of the reasons why this was a masterclass performance from City’s Argentina talisman.

Henry Winter led the tributes to Aguero in the Daily Telegraph match report.

“Mancini’s men, inspired by the individual brilliance of Sergio Aguero, showed their intent to reclaim the trophy they won in 2011 that proved the catalyst for last season’s dramatic title triumph,” said Winter.

“If not special, this was still a very good afternoon for Manchester City, for Sergio Agüero and for Roberto Mancini.

“It was particularly poignant for Agüero to score twice in front of his son Benjamin, who had flown in from Buenos Aires, and was looking on, proudly wearing a “Kun Aguero” top.”

Daniel McDonnell also spoke in praise of the Argentine ace in the Daily Mirror.

“With the game won, Mancini was able to take off Garcia, Tevez and Aguero, but not before the latter sealed his man of the match display with City’s fourth goal of the afternoon,” McDonnell wrote.

“Aguero claimed his second goal of the game in the 73rd minute, Silva clipping a sublime ball over the top of the Leeds defence for City’s top scorer to plunder his 13th of the season.”

In Sergio’s words

Stat Attack

85: Sergio has attempted by far the most dribbles in the team (2nd place Tevez is 32 behind on 53!) He has completed the most dribbles too (46).

Key contributor: Sergio had a hand in all four goals and was directly involved with three of them against Leeds, scoring two and assisting one.

Sharp-shooter: Sergio now has 11 goals which is the second best return in the squad - first is Edin Dzeko. Not bad for a man who has missed a large portion of the season through injury.

Spot King: Sergio has never missed a penalty for City - scoring seven (against Fulham, Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Real Madrid, Stoke City and Leeds United).
