Kiki Musampa
Democratic Republic of Congo-born Kiki Musampa arrived at City in 2004, initially on loan, from Atletico Madrid. The deal was extended to a season-long deal during the summer and Kiki became an integral and popular member of the City first team before joining Trabzonspor on a free transfer in 2006. He clocked up 41 league appearances for City and scored the odd stunning goal along the way, too. Kiki decided at a young age to represent Netherlands at international level rather than his birth nation but never earned a senior call-up.
Godsway Donyoh
In January 2013, City signed Ghanaian teenager Godsway Donyoh from the country’s Right to Dream Academy - a programme available for underprivileged Ghanaian sporting talent. Donyoh, 18, was loaned out immediately, joining Djurgardens IF in Sweden where he currently remains.
Nedum Onuoha
Though a proud Mancunian, Nedum Onuoha was born in Nigeria and moved to England at an early age. He joined City’s Academy aged eight and he made his debut when still only 17 in 2004, quickly establishing himself in the first team. A succession of niggling injuries hampered Nedum’s progress at City and he found it difficult to hold down a permanent first-team spot and he was loaned to Sunderland in 2010 before joining QPR permanently in January 2012.
Benjani
Zimbabwean forward Benjani joined City in February 2008 after his late, late transfer deal from Portsmouth was allowed to go through by the FA. His debut came just a few days later away to Manchester United and he made a dream start, scoring in a 2-1 win that ended the Blues’ 34-year wait for a win at Old Trafford. His time at City rarely achieved such dizzying heights again and he moved on to Sunderland in 2010 having made just 31 appearances and scored seven goals.
Marc Vivien Foe
Marc Vivien Foe joined City in 2002 on a season-long loan from parent club Lyon. The Cameroon international played more than 60 times for his country during a decade in the national team and tragically died while representing the Indomitable Lions in 2003. Marco also scored the last ever City goal at Maine Road in April 2003.
