Jesus Navas can’t wait for the new season to begin and believes City are in for an exciting campaign.

The Spain international joined up with his new team-mates in Hong Kong earlier in the week and is settling into the squad well and the talented winger will hope to see some action against South China and either Spurs or Sunderland this week.

Navas’ career prior to his move to the Etihad was exclusive to La Liga where he became a firm favourite during his 12 years with Sevilla, but he felt the time was right to move to the Premier League and he is keen to renew his partnership with Alvaro Negredo.

“It’s an exciting time to be joining City and I’m confident we will enjoy the season and do great things together,” said Navas.

“Obviously I know Alvaro well. He was a team-mate of mine at Sevilla and he scores lots of goals. I’m very pleased to see him following me to City.

“For me, it was very clear what I wanted to do. I wanted to join City. Both Alvaro and I were convinced that City is a great club to join.

It’s going to make the transition easier - not only do we have a good relationship on the pitch, we have a good one off it. We have played together so we know each other’s game very well

...Navas on Negredo...

“We want to try to recreate the partnership in the Premier League. But really it’s a team effort - it will be down to all of us if we are going to be successful.”

Navas, one of four high profile signings for City this summer, realises with so much quality in the squad he won’t always start.

But in turn, he says the competition for first-team places will bring the best out of him and his team-mates.

“I know my place isn’t guaranteed - I always knew that coming here,” he said. “I know I face a big challenge but I’m here to give 100% and not take it for granted that I will always be in the team.

“Of course, we all know we have to earn our places in the team. It’s definitely going to be exciting and fun to watch. But the most important thing is to win the games we play and be successful.”
