It might feel like he’s been around forever but Micah Richards turns just 25-years old today.

With that in mind, we’re going to spend the day paying tribute to one of the most popular members of the first-team as our way of saying “Happy Birthday” to the big man.

Since his debut as a 17-year old, the Academy graduate has cemented his reputation as one of the most accomplished defenders in the Premier League, earning him England caps, Olympic appearances, an FA Cup winner’s medal and a Premier League title.

He’s also one of the most approachable, down to earth footballers one could wish to meet, so it’s no surprise that some of the funniest, most original features on mcfc.co.uk have had Micah at their heart.

From his arm wrestling saga with Joleon Lescott to our look inside Micah’s fridge on CityTV, via his Twitter commentary on City v Leeds in this year’s FA Cup, the birthday boy is always game for a laugh, so over the course of the day we’re going to share all of these golden moments on the site.

We’ll also be examining his career at City and picking out some of the key highlights, from that last-minute equaliser in the FA Cup tie at Villa Park, to his brilliant equaliser against Everton in 2006.

After more than 200 appearances in the Premier League for City, Micah has proven to be one of the club’s great survivors, and with so many appearances ahead of him, the 25-year old’s popularity is only set to increase over the coming years.

A standard bearer for the Academy, a generous contributor to a number of charities and a footballer with his best years still ahead of him.

24 June is a day to stop and tip our hats to the man Nigel de Jong called “Mammoth” as he reaches a quarter of a century not out!
