Leading the way with the most productive display of the week was Ryan McGivern who bagged a rare goal in Hibs’ 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock.
McGivern headed home with five minutes to make it 1-1 with a go but the visitors scored again almost immediately. The hosts still had time to level again in a dramatic finish at Easter Road.
Karim Rekik bagged a full 90 minutes for Blackburn who went down at home to the increasingly unpredictable Peterborough. Posh opened up a 3-0 lead after Gayle scored a 13-minute first-half hat-trick before Rovers pulled two goals back late on.
Jeremy Helan’s best efforts could prevent Sheffield Wednesday losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest while Wayne Bridge (injured), Alex Nimely (hamstring) and Reece Wabara (unused sub) did not feature for Brighton, Crystal Palace and Blackpool respectively.
Dropping down to League 2 and there were frustrating weekends for both Adam Drury (Burton Albion) and Alex Henshall (Chesterfield) as neither Academy graduate played a part for their loan clubs this weekend.
In La Liga, Roque Santa Cruz’s Malaga held Atletico Madrid to a 0-0 draw to further enhance hopes of a Champions League spot. Malaga are currently fourth and Santa Cruz played the full game.
Omar Elabdellaoui picked up a booking and was substituted after 61 minutes as Eintracht Braunschweiger lost 1-0 to MSV Duisburg and were knocked off the top of 2.Bundesliga as a result.
Luca Scapuzzi came on as a 37th-minute sub for Varese but the Serie B side still lost 3-1 to Empoli. Mohammed Abu didn’t feature for Lorient and Abdi Ibrahim’s Stromgodset are yet to begin their season.
