Back in 2008, it was Shaun Wright-Phillips who masterminded victory over the Black Cats with a brace on his second debut for the club and now October’s Barclays Premier League Player of the Month wants to follow in his footsteps.
City have lost three of their five away games in the league so far this season but Sergio Aguero believes that the Sky Blues can bring an end to a run of three successive 1-0 defeats on Wearside on Sunday.
“The record is there to be broken,” the 25-year old told mcfc.co.uk, “Two years ago, we hadn’t won the league in 44 years and we won it, now we need to break this record which is only three games old!
“But that’s not the most important thing - the important thing is the three points.
We are not doing well in away games and we need to start winning consistently because, at the end of the season, this will be very important.

The Argentina international’s on-field relationship with Alvaro Negredo has been the subject of many lyrical tributes from journalists and supporters across the back pages and on social media in recent weeks.
“Beauty and the Beast”, as they’ve been dubbed, have been responsible for 21 goals in 13 games so far this season, making them statistically, the most potent double act in the league.
Kun revealed that he enjoys playing with the ex-Sevilla frontman and that sharing a mother tongue is helping them in their deconstruction of defences at home and abroad.
“It’s been good from day one and with both of us speaking Spanish, we understand each other,” Aguero said.
“He’s a great player, and with great players it’s easy to get along.
“From the first moment we did well together and when we play, we understand one another.”
At this stage of the season, Aguero has 13 goals which is three more than he had at this point in the title-winning campaign of 2011/12.
He ended up with 30 at the end of that campaign, so can his goals fire City to a second title in three years?
Kun believes that they certainly have the quality to achieve this goal but must cut out the silly mistakes which saw them drop points from winning positions at Cardiff and Aston Villa.
“Every year Manchester City are the favourites to win the title and this year we have a squad good enough to do it,” he declared.

“At home I think we are doing very well, we are strong, but we must improve away.”
Sergio made two more additions to his growing showreel of City strikes against CSKA to help the team to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League for the very first time in midweek and he believes that success in the continent’s premier club competition is a possibility if their preparation is good enough.
“I’m very happy that we’ve reached the round of 16 and we will see how far we can go,” the Quilmes-born man stated.
“We have a great squad to succeed in this competition but every Champions League game is difficult and we will try to prepare very well for the next round when we know which team we will face.
“As always, we’ll try to play those games the best we can.”
