Micah Richards expressed his delight at City’s first away win in the Premier League this season.

The 25-year old was restored to the line-up for the trip to Upton Park and helped the Sky Blues to a deserved 3-1 victory.

Although Manuel Pellegrini’s men were good value for their two-goal winning margin, Micah was keen to assert that there was as much guile as there was glamour behind the convincing victory.

“It’s about time we won away, in the past we’ve played well and not got the three points but today we played well again and this time and we got the three points,” the defender declared.

“It was a bit nervy when it went to 2-1 but we’re really happy that we got there in the end.

“We didn’t deserve to concede even though West Ham were pushing us hard.

“I think we defended really well but Aguero was outstanding today.”

Sam Allardyce opted to field a strikerless formation against City as he did in the Hammers’ 3-0 win over Spurs before the international break.

Micah admitted that the ploy did cause some problems for the City defence but was pleased that they managed to counteract it with their own pressing game.

“It was pretty tough at times, they were playing without a recognised striker a bit like Bayern Munich did, which does make it difficult to know who to pick up,” Richards said.

“But today I think we pressed really well and we had the majority of the ball so I think we did well in the end.

“I didn’t see that United drew, the last I knew they were winning but Arsenal and Chelsea won again today so it’s a boost for us

“It’s going to be a tough season ahead but wins like today make all the difference.”

Unsurprisingly, it was Aguero who was given the Man of the Match award after his well-taken brace and the Argentine revealed his delight at his first headed goal in the Premier League.

“I didn’t know that it was my first goal with my head in the league but I’m very happy,” he added.

“The goalkeeper is very good, I thought I’d scored my hat-trick but he made a great save.”
