The Bosnian, who signed a new four-year deal at the club this week, has warned that the first visitors to the Etihad Stadium this season won’t be content to sit back and hold out for a draw.
Brendan Rodgers’ side pushed City all the way for the title last season and Dzeko believes that they will be there or thereabouts once again this season.
“You never know what can happen, nobody expected Liverpool to go so far last season but, in football, the unexpected can happen,” Edin told mcfc.co.uk.
“This is especially true in the Premier League – Liverpool are a dangerous team that we must respect.
“Every team, from the first five or six from last year, thinks that they can win the title this season but hopefully we can be the team to go and do it again – it will be tough but we are ready to fight.
“Suarez is a big loss for them but they have some good new players and some very talented players who have stayed, so we will see how they do this season.”
City and Liverpool were the league’s two great purveyors of positive, attacking football last year, though the two games at the Etihad and Anfield were decided by the narrowest of margins.
Only Manuel Pellegrini’s side outscored the Merseysiders in the Premier League, 102 to 101, meaning the stage is set for another epic encounter between two freewheeling teams.
“They played some amazing football last season and they were just behind us at the end of the season,” Edin declared.
“Hopefully they can be behind us at the end of this season as well because they are a very good team with a great manager.
“They’re a great club and they will come here and try to win but we’re at home and I think we have an amazing team as well.
“We will do our best to try to win that game as well.”

As for his targets for the season, Edin is clear.
“We’ve already made history with the few trophies we’ve won in the last few years – we’ve won two Premier League titles which is not an easy thing to do but now we want more,” he said.
“I’m a striker - everyone expects goals from me and that’s what I do best.
“I will try to keep going, to keep scoring goals to help the team win games and, hopefully, more titles.”
