Alvaro Negredo will miss City’s FA Cup tie with Watford with the shoulder injury he sustained against West Ham in midweek.

David Silva will also be absent tomorrow after picking up a slight hamstring strain, but manager Manuel Pellegrini does not expect to be without either player for too long.

“Negredo has a shoulder injury and we will see how he is over the weekend,” said the City boss. “The initial opinion is that it is a minor problem and nothing more.

“Silva is not 100% so will be rested against Watford. He has a slight hamstring strain – nothing too serious – but he won’t play tomorrow as a precaution more than anything else.

“The rest of the squad is available for the match with Watford including Micah Richards and Stevan Jovetic.”

Pellegrini said the Blues have no intention of sacrificing the attacking style that has already produced an incredible 106 goals so far this season.

Though City will start tomorrow as favourites to progress to the last 16 of the FA Cup, Pellegrini warned it won’t always be possible to win games by the margins they have done in so many matches this season.

“We try to continue to play our attacking style throughout the season,” he said. “There may be games we don’t score so many games but we won’t be changing our style and will continue our philosophy.

“Watford may not be having a great season in the Championship but they will be motivated when they play us because this is the FA Cup and they will want to beat a Premier League side.

“We are expecting a difficult game but we want to progress in this competition. As far as the Capital One Cup, I’m not disappointed it won’t be a Manchester final.

“Sunderland are a very good side who have now beaten Manchester United and Chelsea so it will be equally hard in the final.”

City take on Sunderland in the Premier League in what will be a dress rehearsal for the Capital One Cup Final in March.
