Following his mid-week hat-trick against Bayern Munich, the in-form Argentine has moved on to 92 goals for the Blues – 17 of them this season.
But Kun knows City will have to work hard to leave St Mary’s with three points and with Chelsea dropping points at Sunderland, there is added incentive for both teams to try and close the gap at the top.
“I think Southampton are enjoying a good season and I think it will be very important to win there,” said Sergio.
“If we take three points, we will be second in the table and we will have reduced Chelsea’ lead. All the games in the Premier League are difficult but we will try to play our game and win the match, which is the most important thing.”
With the Saints this season’s surprise package, the trip to St Mary’s has been made doubly difficult.
City’s only win at the stadium that opened in 2001, was a 2-0 success in November 2003 – but the Blues face a Southampton side today that have taken 16 out of a possible 18 points at home and have scored 17 goals, conceding just one.
“Last season we drew 1-1 and it was a positive result because we were fighting for the first place,” said Kun.
It’s a tough place to go and the draw was a fair result. I think we had few chances there last season but we shared a point at the end. It is different now because we need to win and eat into Chelsea’s lead

“We have games today, Wednesday, Saturday, and then Tuesday and for us all the games are important. We need to get as many points as we can in the Premier League and then we will think about the Champions League.”
Sergio also added the words all City fans will have been hoping to hear when asked about his future plans: “I want to be here and stick to the new contract I signed few months ago. I want to keep winning things with the club and I want so stay at this level, scoring goals and having individual success. But the most important thing is to win titles. Ideally we would win one title every year.
“I want to be at City until my contract ends and then my plans are to go back to Argentina in the long term future. I want to be at this level while I am here and I want City to be the last team I play for in Europe.”
