Martin Demichelis believes City must stick to their principles when Swansea visit on Saturday.

The Argentina international says though the Blues’ recent form hasn’t been impressive, results will come by playing in the same style that ended with a Premier League title last May.

“I think that Manuel always wants us to win in a certain way, but what we need to do is win consecutive games to reduce the gap with Chelsea,” said Demichelis.

We have to beat Swansea and hopefully we can beat them by playing in the style that has served us so well. We need to win games while we fix things and find our best form again.

“It’s not going to be easy because Swansea are playing very well and we’ve come back from an international break. We need to win no matter what, but ideally by playing with style.

Swansea are doing better than last season, but I’m not surprised because they have very good attacking players

...Martin Demichelis..

Demichelis is likely to come up against one of the Premier League’s most in-form strikers in Swansea striker Wilfried Bony, but he says he is looking forward to a physical battle with the powerful Ivorian.

“During my career and moreover in this league, I have faced a lot physical players, but for me is a motivation,” he said.

“If I have the chance to play against Swansea, I will be 100% focused because of the threat he poses - I like to find different ways to defend against top players so it is a challenge I look forward to.”

Earlier in the week Fernando suggested Chelsea will drop points at some stage and Demichelis is also convinced that Jose Mourinho’s side will have a dip in form sooner or later – but stressed City have to take advantage when they do.

“The title race is a long way from being over,” he said. “All teams have difficult moments during the season.

“Chelsea will not win all their games so we have to pressure them. We have to win games so they will feel that someone is chasing them.

“We have the squad to do it, even if we have some injuries at the moment. We will keep fighting to be in the spot we were last season and continue fighting for the title to the last game to try to be champions again.”
