Thankfully the Blues’ captain has revealed it was merely a precaution with a trip to Bosnia-Hercegovina to come in a few days’ time.
City had three players on international duty on Friday evening as the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers continued – all in Group B.
Edin Dzeko started for Bosnia-Hercegovina who travelled to the Cardiff City Stadium to face Wales, while Kompany skippered Belgium who opened their campaign against minnows Andorra at the Stade Roi Baudouin in Brussels.
Jason Denayer was named on the bench for the Red Devils who raced into a 3-0 lead at half-time with three goals in the space of six minutes - Wolfsburg’s Kevin De Bruyne grabbing two and Nacer Chadli the other - as the group favourites coasted towards victory.
Further goals from Liverpool’s Divock Origi and a brace from Dries Mertens sealed a 6-0 victory - a record score for Belgium in European Championship qualifiers.
In Cardiff, Wales and Bosnia-Hercegovina shared a 0-0 draw – a result that probably suits both nations.
Dzeko saw a second-half header saved by Wayne Hennessy as the Balkans pressed for a winner and the City striker also picked up a yellow card for his troubles on an otherwise satisfactory evening in South Wales for the visitors.
