The first Etihad Player of the Month award voting opens today with three players in the running to kick-off the campaign in style.

Stevan Jovetic, Sergio Aguero and Fernando have all caught the eye during the first few weeks of the campaign with Jovetic scoring twice against Liverpool, Sergio bagging two vital goals and Fernando winning plaudits for his excellent start in sky blue.

And don’t forget, by voting for the August award, you are automatically entered into a draw  where the winner will present the accolade to the winning player in person at Carrington (UK voters only) or receive a personal video message from the player (overseas only).

Here are the three nominees:

STEVAN JOVETIC

Jovetic has begun the new season in fine style with an energetic display against Newcastle and a two-goal man-of-the-match display against Liverpool perhaps his best performance in a City shirt to date. Though he failed to find the net against Stoke, he will be hoping to continue his blistering pre-season form in the coming weeks of the new campaign.

FERNANDO

A superb start to life in sky blue by the former Porto man who has quickly become something of a cult favourite among City fans.  Fernando has fitted seamlessly into the champions’ midfield and some of his last-ditch covering tackles have perhaps been the difference between winning and losing games on a couple of occasions. The Brazilian made a faultless start against Newcastle and was again impressive against Liverpool before he picked up an injury in the 1-0 defeat to Stoke. A strong contender.

Fernando

SERGIO AGUERO

City’s best performer in the disappointing loss to Stoke, Aguero found the net in each of his first two games this season with cameo displays against Newcastle and Liverpool. His strike at St James’ Park proved crucial at a time when City were under intense pressure and his goal against Liverpool after just 23 seconds on the pitch sealed three vital points for the champions.
