City travel to Everton looking to make it three wins out of three to start the new season.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men have been in mesmerising form so far, and will be looking for that to continue on Sunday at Goodison Park – a ground at which City have struggled for wins in recent seasons.

As for the Toffees, they have four points from their opening two games, including an impressive 3-0 triumph over Southampton last time out.

Roberto Martinez has added Tom Cleverley and Gerard Deulofeu to his squad over the summer, but former Blue Sylvain Distin has now moved on to Bournemouth.

Key quotes

Manuel Pellegrini: “The record does not matter. It is important for me to have three more points in the table, and to continue the way we played in the first two games because we must be consistent through the season.

“It will be a difficult challenge, because Everton are always a difficult team who play good football. In the two games so far this season they have scored five times.

“They have Lukaku in a good moment and we will have to play with a lot of intensity if we want to win there.”

Bacary Sagna: “We have to forget about Chelsea now – that game is in the past now and we need to set the same standards, pace and energy levels against Everton.

“Everton have always been a difficult team to play against, especially on their own ground. They have really good young players, many of who play for their country such as Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley so this won’t be an easy game for us - but we want to keep setting the pace, go there to win and show our intentions from the first minute on.”

David Silva: “Everton have a very strong team, and it’s a difficult stadium to play at - it’s always been difficult for us to win there,” he said, “But we will try to continue our good form and look to return home with three points.

“We expect nothing less than a tough game. Everton have also started well so we need to take things on a match by match basis and also have the rub of the green on the day.”

Roberto Martinez: “Every time we play Man City we usually have great games - I expect Sunday to be no different.

“They are a very good side. We have seen a team that is fully refreshed, who have added faces but kept their title-winning core.”

Steven Naismith: “We are going into each game believing we can win. Maybe our confidence took a wee knock last season with the amount of games and how thick and fast they were coming.

“It’s a good opportunity to show where we are at, and we are a confident team that can pass the ball and see the weaknesses in other teams.”
