The Blues made it back-to-back Premier League wins when they beat Jose Mourinho’s side, but Sagna, who has started the season in excellent form, believes it will count for nothing if the team heads back from Goodison Park empty-handed.
“We have to forget about Chelsea now – that game is in the past now and we need to set the same standards, pace and energy levels against Everton.
“We’ve started the season the way we wanted to do and we have some good momentum. It’s obviously important to win your opening games but it’s the way we’ve played that has been pleasing.
“We need to take things game by game and keep going by playing with the same style and confidence.”
“Everton have always been a difficult team to play against, especially on their own ground. They have really good young players, many of who play for their country such as Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley so this won’t be an easy game for us - but we want to keep setting the pace, go there to win and show our intentions from the first minute on.”
Sagna says the more game time he gets, the better he will become. With arguably his best performance yet against Chelsea, he hopes the new campaign continues in the way it’s begun after a stop/start season last term.
“I’ve a good pre-season and feel sharp – last season I didn’t really have that,” he said.
I’ve been playing games every week over the past six weeks whereas last season I was playing once every two or three weeks and it is difficult to build up your sharpness and match fitness

“I will always give my maximum whenever I start and the manager will pick who he feels he wants to play and the player he feels is most efficient and brings the most to the team for any particular game.
“I have to be solid, keep working hard and bring something to the team because that’s what is expected of me.”
He also believes new signing Nicolas Otamendi will only strengthen the team, adding: “I have seen Otamendi play a few times, especially when he was at Porto alongside Elia where they both looked very solid.
“He is an Argentina international, has good ability on the ball and is quite calm in possession so I think he will be a great addition to our squad.”
